Development of the Resource Directory
A key strategy for the Arts Commission identified in the Regional Blueprint is the development and implementation of an on-line Arts Education Resource Directory. Development of the Resource Directory is critical because Arts in Focus, the County’s first ever survey of the status of arts education, revealed that 82.3% of school districts use professional artists for arts education activities.

Current Environment
Up to this point, there has not been a comprehensive listing of approved arts education programs that can have an impact on K-12 education. The Commission has already identified 300 organizations that have an arts education program (arts education providers) and these organizations must individually disseminate program information to 83,000 teachers and administrators working in 1,767 schools. Furthermore, when educators receive this information, usually in the form of marketing materials, it is difficult for them to evaluate if the program can help them meet their instructional goals.

A site for Educators
This Resource Directory will enable educators to strategically search for arts education programs by arts discipline, subject area, grade level, program type and cultural origin. The site contains photographs of the arts education providers, video streaming of artists’ work, an electronic booking form to facilitate communication between teachers and arts education providers, and the ability for the Arts Commission to generate reports on the usage of the site.

All listing adhere to the California Content Standards
In order to be listed on the site, all arts education providers must complete an electronic application form demonstrating how the program supports the Content Standards for California Schools, which include the Visual and Performing Arts Standards, and be approved by a discipline-based peer review panel comprised of artists, arts organizations, curriculum specialists, teachers, and parents. The site has launched with 100 arts education programs and it is anticipated that 100 providers will be added each year.

The target audience for the site is the 93,000 teachers and administrators working in Los Angeles County schools. However, the Commission anticipates parents, professional artists, arts organizations, and other community-based non-profit organizations will also access the site.

Provider Acknowledgment
All arts organizations and artists with approved programs are required to acknowledge and link to www.laartsed.org through the inclusion of the resource directory logo and/or credit text on all appropriate educational programming materials, including education web pages.

The purpose of linking back to the resource directory is to provide added value to approved programs through streaming video and articulation of how the program addresses the Content Standards. This linking additionally maximizes exposure to the website while providing an accurate picture of the entire Los Angeles County arts education communities' commitment to standards-based school-day programming.
