Sun Valley Health Center

Sun Salutations
Artist: Terry Braunstein
Title: Sun Salutations
Date: 2008
District: Third Supervisorial District
Location: Sun Valley Health Center
7223 Fair Avenue
Sun Valley, CA 91352
Department: Health Services

Terry Braunstein’s artwork for the new Sun Valley Health Center was inspired by images of the sun, drawn from a variety of cultures. The sun images relate both to the name of the community as well as the sun as a symbol of regeneration, warmth and healing. The Health Center, a collaboration with the County, Los Angeles Unified School District, Northeast Valley Health Corporation, who will operate the facility, and the UCLA-David Geffen School of Medicine, offers primary care services to the community and to students at adjacent Sun Valley Middle School.

The artwork, Sun Salutations, will appear in a number of locations in the entry rotunda of the building. A large ceramic tile mosaic graces the exterior, above the entry. Within the rotunda, an 18” trim of ceramic tile encircles the room and highlights a semi-circular soffit above the reception desk. Two large mosaics (50” h x 50” w) made of glass, ceramic and photographic ceramic tiles will be placed low enough on the wall for children and adults alike to appreciate the textures and rich colors of the mosaics. A third smaller mosaic will be above the reception desk.
