Shortly after the Canyon Country JoAnne Darcy Library moved to its new building, local artist Traci Petro created a large 10' h x 20' w mural for the children's section. It depicts a tree with many sturdy branches that seem to be growing from the bookshelves. Two children and a wide range of creatures such as squirrels, an owl, birds, a monkey, and bees occupy the branches of this "tree of knowledge."
The mural was designed to promote reading and the pursuit of knowledge by portraying children and animals reading to themselves and to each other. The mural also offers an expression of peace and relaxation coupled with a sense of wonder, imagination and adventure.
About the Artist: Traci Petro received her BFA in illustration from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, and subsequently founded her own mural painting business, The Dream Painter Wall Murals. Petro has painted award winning murals throughout the state in homes, elementary schools, and the neo-natal intensive care unit at Northridge Hospital.
