Jazz Tap Ensemble Jazz Tap Ensemble, is a creative and spontaneous company dedicated to tap dancing and jazz music. The ensemble is internationally recognized for being pioneers in the tap revival. In its 27th year, the company celebrates bringing original tap to the concert stage with several talented dancers and musicians. JTE received the honor of performing with tap masters such as Gregory Hines, Jimmy Slyde, Dianne Walker, Brenda Bufalino, Savion Glover, Charles “Honi” Coles, Steve Condos, Eddie Brown and Harold Nicholas. The ensemble has appeared in major concert halls nationally and internationally, including the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Institution, London's Riverside Theatre, Paris' Theatre de la Ville and Lyon's Maison de la Danse, as well as the Jacob's Pillow and Spoleto USA festivals. JTE has been featured at tap festivals in New York, Colorado, Portland, Houston, Boston, San Francisco and USIA tours of Southeast Asia and Latin America. Highlights include Gregory Hines' Evening of Tap at Carnegie Hall, the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, Madrid's Festival en Danza and Lyon's 4th Biennale. Artistic Director Lynn Dally co-founded the Jazz Tap Ensemble in 1979. Dally appeared in the original production of Tap Divas at the New York Tap City Festival in 2001 and in the award winning film Tapdancin! Dally has performed with many tap legends, including Gregory Hines and the Nicholas Brothers and received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Irvine Fellowship in Dance as well as the Guggenheim Fellowship. |
