Description

Pacific Opera Project (POP) seeks a Production Intern to support our programming in our 24/25 season.  The Production Intern will work directly with the Artistic Director, Production Manager, and/or Production Stage Manager to work on all aspects of opera production. Typical tasks will include making and executing rehearsal schedules, assisting with the design of sets, costumes, props, or lighting; building and painting sets and props; assisting with orchestral aspects ranging from securing and marking parts to recording rehearsals. The Production Intern will work closely with the Director and Conductor in rehearsals and will be asked to take dramatic and music notes. The Production Intern will also format and operate supertitles for operas in foreign languages.   This position will work approximately 15 hours per week from June 2024 through February 2025.
 

Qualifications

Ideal Production Intern candidates have experience or a strong interest in theatrical production. Candidates are eager to learn and get involved in multiple aspects of opera production. The ability to read music is a plus.
 

Background

Founded in 2011, Pacific Opera Project (POP) has evolved from an irreverent startup to a vibrant part of the Los Angeles arts community, each season presenting 4-6 operas serving up to 6,500 new and returning opera fans across the city. Established in 2021, POP’s Education & Community Engagement Department offers free opera education to underserved youth and is currently resident in 24 Title-I classrooms, serving 625 students each year. POP’s fresh approach updates classic operas with delightful irreverence, like setting Mozart’s The Magic Flute in the world of Super Mario Bros. or bringing Puccini’s La Bohème into modern-day Los Angeles with hipsters, complete with original translated supertitles. POP keeps opera accessible with low ticket prices starting at just $15 to remove financial barriers and provide access to a more diverse population.
