Welcome
to the ---------Los Angeles County
Arts Commission's ----------------------------Musicians
Roster
...the
newest addition to the Free Concerts in Public Sites program! In
our continuing effort to make the arts accessible to Los Angeles
County, the Arts Commission is pleased to launch this comprehensive
database of performers approved for Free Concerts in Public Sites.
How
it works
The Roster is searchable by name of artist, and by music style.
Some music styles are broken into subcategories to better distinguish
the nuances of a music genre. For instance, jazz is a general
music category, but there are also more specific subcategories
of jazz including smooth jazz, Latin jazz, etc. As the Musicians
Roster grows, so will the different styles of music available
to the communities of Los Angeles County for Free Concerts in
Public Sites.
How
it happened
Los Angeles County-based musicians applied for Roster consideration
during spring 2003. In May, a panel of experienced and respected
professionals associated with Los Angeles County music and/or
presenting communities convened to evaluate the very first round
of Roster applicants. Selection criteria were based on musical
proficiency and ability to work well and cooperatively with other
organizations as representatives of this program.
Who
is on the Roster
A total of 63 groups have been approved for the Roster. They will
reside on this database for three years, at which time they may
reapply. Roster artists can perform up to three concerts per year.
The Musicians Roster’s annual application process will open in
January/February each year. Artists interested in applying to
the Roster should read the musicians guidelines and check the
application timeline at
www.lacountyarts.org/free.html.
Search
by Artist
Audio streaming was made possible by an agreement with the American Federation
of Musicians.
Who uses
the Roster
Producing organizations applying to present Free Concerts in Public
Sites are required to select performers from the Musicians Roster.
The Roster is also a resource for the community at-large to survey
the rich diverse pool of talent available to them in Los Angeles County.
