Djanbazian Dance Company There is a fable in Old Persian love stories that says you can turn any evil or bad fear to good, if you repeat the word “love” three times: love, love, love. This explains “Love Dance,” the dance piece choreographed by Artistic Director Anna Djanbazian. The costume design for this dance was inspired by Persian miniature painting with highlights of white to symbolize purity and peace. The performance piece relates to the Persian New Year known as “NoRooz,” which celebrates the arrival of spring. NoRooz reaffirms man’s relationship to nature by marking the beginning of the yearly cycle of birth (spring), blossoming (summer), fading (fall) and death (winter). The NoRooz celebration is about fresh hope and the renewal of old relationships. Anna Djanbazian received her master’s in choreography from UCLA and formed the Djanbazian Dance Company in Los Angeles in 1992. A multiple Lester Horton Award 2004 winner and recipient of two Dance Grand Prix Italia 2005 awards, she has choreographed more than 100 original works to critical acclaim. Deeply committed to preserving artistic/cultural heritage, Anna has served on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Dance Resource Center for three years. The company, under the auspices of the Djanbazian Dance Foundation, is a non-profit organization and has presented Rumi: Path to Enlightenment and her ballet Komitas, Kroong Bnaver (Komitas, Banished But Not Forgotten) as a full-length works. |
