Facilities Workshop

This workshop has become an annual event for the Arts Commission since 2002/03. The instructor is Thomas Harris, a consultant who has done similar workshops for the Nonprofit Finance Fund and authored the January 2000 Irvine Foundation report, The Development of Cultural Facilities in Los Angeles. The two-day workshop is designed for organizations contemplating purchasing, renovating, or moving into facilities.

This hands-on workshop provides worksheets and tools to assist organizations in planning for capital projects. The workshop continues to receive the highest across-the-board ratings of any workshop the Arts Commission has presented.

There is no other organization offering this type of workshop in Los Angeles.

Human Resources Workshops

Since many organizations request staffing support through the Arts Commission’s OGP grant programs, the Arts Commission presents workshops to assist organizations better utilize these funds through more informed decisions and practices in recruiting, hiring and managing staff.

This year, the Arts Commission has contracted with ManageEase, a firm specializing in outsourcing HR functions to provide an introduction to HR practices, as well as quarterly roundtable sessions to discuss specific HR issues and challenges. Organizations that participate in the workshops, or that have previously attended HR workshops provided by the Arts Commission, will also be able to utilize an on-call HR help desk to answer an organization’s HR questions. Information on these workshops is sent to grantees in advance of the sessions.

National Arts Marketing Project (NAMP)

In 2003/04, the Arts Commission directed substantial resources towards arts marketing needs assessment research and training. As a result of this investment, in 2004/05 the National Arts Marketing Project (NAMP) named Los Angeles its newest site for presenting arts marketing training programs. The Center for Cultural Innovation was named the initial local liaison and deliverer of these training programs. In 2006, the Arts & Business Council of Americans for the Arts announced that LA Stage Alliance (LASA) has been chosen as the Los Angeles area program partner for NAMP. Present Arts Commission grantees can attend workshops through our scholarship program.
