Hot Properties at [INSIDE]
THE FORD
2001-2002 Season
The
2001-02 season is the second for Hot Properties at [INSIDE] THE FORD,
a collaboration of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, which operates
the John Anson Ford Theatres, and A.S.K.
Theater Projects, which nurtures new plays but does not produce. The
contribution from The James Irvine Foundation is a new element: A.S.K.
re-grants funds earmarked for production costs to each participating company.
The
series pairs Los Angeles-based theatre companies that have done outstanding
work with new plays that have had readings or workshops through the auspices
of A.S.K. Theater Projects in the Ford's state-of-the-art, 87-seat indoor
performance space.

Oasis Theatre Company presents the WORLD PREMIERE of
STEEL: John Henry and the Shaker
by Leon Martell
Music by Penka Kouneva
Directed by Wendy McClellan
In the wild frontier, a boy - a shaker - holds a driving steel to a mountain
of rock and hopes that John Henry's hammer won't strike him dead. The
sound of the hammer echoes through this American myth scored with the
worksongs of the crews, the driving rhythm of the steam engine and the
sounds of the railroad.
