FUNDING

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission was established in 1947 to ensure access to the arts for Los Angeles County residents; the administration of grant programs for Los Angeles County arts organizations is an essential component of this mandate.

ORGANIZATION GRANT PROGRAMS

In 1997 the Commission voted to implement a new grant program in 1998-99 to support mid-size organizations with budgets between $100,000 and $800,000, and to restructure the existing grant programs (formerly the National/State/County Partnership and the Organizational Grant Program). To clarify communication with County arts organizations, the grant programs have been renamed to correspond to the size of the annual operating budgets of the organizations:

Organizational Grant Program I
- Small Organizations (annual operating budgets less than $100,000)

Organizational Grant Program II
- Mid-Size Organizations (annual operating budgets between $100,000 and $800,000)

Organizational Grant Program III
- Large Organizations (annual operating budgets greater than $800,000)

The Commission has also implemented the use of discipline peer panels to review all applications and to make recommendations to the Commission. The commissioners review these recommendations, make appropriate adjustments and submit funding recommendations to the County Board of Supervisors for final approval. Each recommended organization must meet the guidelines of the grant program from which they will be awarded funds.
