Project Description
The Department of Public Defender has retrofitted its office space at the historic Los Angeles County Hall of Records building. The offices are used primarily by the Human Resources Division, including staff seeking legal support and new incoming staff going through the hiring process. In Spring 2022, three local arts professionals - Lorenzo Hurtado Segovia (Otis College of Art and Design), Sarah Russin (LACE), Taylor Bythewwod Porter (CAAM) - reviewed over 50 artist submissions and preselected ten artists for interviews. On June 3, the selection panel, including three Public Defender staff, selected eight artists for commission: Abel Alejandre, Moses Ball, Kenturah Davis, Andrew Hem, Elana Mann, Sergio Teran, Ian Roberston-Salt, and Jody Zellen. The Department of Public Defender selected artist Sergio Teran for the entrance Lobby, and the other artists will each have an individual wall of the offices.
