Project Description

Edmund D. Edelman Children's Court is a County Superior Court in Monterey Park. This court handles all juvenile dependency cases in LA County. During the courtyard renovation, the Civic Art Division, in collaboration with the First Supervisorial District and the Department of Child and Family Services, decided to replace the damaged murals and uplift that communal space.
Art consultant LeBasse Projects worked with the selected artist, Andrew Hem, to create five original murals for the courtyard.  Primarily intended for young children and teenagers, the five artworks were also designed for the enjoyment of facility staff who regularly engage in the space.
