Project Description

The original proposal for this project was for a wildlife mural painting on aluminum panels to be installed on the western wall of the Devil's Punchbowl Nature Center. Unfortunately, at around the same time artist Aaron Morse was finishing the painting at his studio in September of 2020, a Bobcat fire swept over the San Gabriel mountain and down to the park area and nature center. The damage was extensive, and the small building where the artwork was to be installed was destroyed.
With the support of the Department of Parks and Recreation, Civic Art identified Vasquez Rocks Natural Area and Nature Center as the alternative location because of the geographical proximity and connection between these two Nature Centers. The Centers have very similar flora and fauna, visitors are often interested in both locations, and the Parks' staff often work between the two sites. The artwork was installed on April 7, 2021.
