Description

The Design Intern position will be best suited for a student with a passion for design, storytelling, and inspiring others. In this role, the intern will strengthen their knowledge of the design process and gain valuable experience working in a creative setting in an art-based non-profit organization. This position will work approximately 20-30 hours a week from June through August.

Qualifications

Design Intern applicants must be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud software including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Other requirements include: -Access to stable Wi-Fi plus audio and visual capabilities for virtual meetings -Attention to detail, time management, flexibility to adjust in the moment; willingness to learn and grow through practice -Desire to work in an organization with a strong spirit of social justice -Completion of a criminal background check for 826LA -Be available 30-40 hours a week M–F, during the hours of 10 AM–6 PM. -Interest in writing, education, nonprofits, youth development, and/or art education -Strong communication skills  The following are desired, but not required: -Written and spoken Spanish-language proficiency  -Experience working with students, including relevant volunteer work -Working knowledge of the college application process -Strong work ethic and deep commitment to student success -Excellent organizational skills

Background

 826LA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support students, ages six to eighteen, with their creative and expository writing skills, and to help teachers inspire their students to write. 826LA operates writing centers in Mar Vista and Echo Park, and two permanent, on-campus Writers’ Rooms: one at Manual Arts High School in South Los Angeles, and one at Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights. Both the Mar Vista and Echo Park centers operate behind Time Travel Marts, convenience stores catering to time travelers that serve as our gateway to the community, and whose proceeds support 826LA programs.
