The Academy Film Archive is looking for an intern to assist within the Cataloging and Public Access departments on the Cultural Equity and Inclusion Project. The Cultural Equity and Inclusion Project is part of the Archive’s efforts to help identify and uncover the social, gender, ethnic, accessibility, and cultural gaps of more than 100 years of film preservation and collecting, helping to foster a more inclusive American film history from multiple perspectives. This is a virtual, limited internship position beginning in June through August 2021. Your role within the Cultural Equity and Inclusion Project would include identifying relevant filmmakers and content within specific underrepresented communities and compiling your findings within the AFA’s database. This internship will consist primarily of independent research conducted within secondary sources, including but not limited to books, articles, and internet resources. In addition, you will produce short writing compositions, for both internal and external use.
Pursuing a degree in Library Information Science, Museum Studies, Cinema and Media Studies, or related discipline preferred. Live in or attend college in Los Angeles County. Demonstrated knowledge of and a vested interest in an underrepresented community's role in the history of film production and content. Excellent research and writing skills. Proficiency working in Excel and relational databases. Ability to work independently and on a computer for extended periods of time.
