Making (MiM) Project. MiM is a unique fine arts therapy program developed for people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The aim of the MiM project is to offer people living with dementia a new, creative and nonverbal way of communicating and capturing precious moments through art. This art program provides participants a meaningful outlet for communication with loved ones and peers and helps to treat depression by providing much needed socialization and interaction for individuals who are often shunned and neglected. MiM is structured for people with no prior art training, ensuring that all participants capture a memory in art. The goal of the Alzheimer’s LA’s Memories in the Making Internship Project is to provide a university student exposure to the delivery of a visual arts project in a social service environment and provide them exposure to transferrable skills. The MiM Intern will be under the supervision of the Manager of Support Groups and Activity Programs. Specific duties and responsibilities include: develop ways to facilitate the program virtually for program participants, research and develop an educational presentation on the benefits of music and art therapy for people with dementia, create a video on “How to Set up MiM” for caregivers to learn, touch base with active MiM sites and facilitators, and outreach to potential new sites. MiM Intern will complete a MiM Facilitator Training. Upon completion, the MiM Intern will assist and lead a virtual MiM Facilitator Training and will facilitate virtual MiM sessions with clients and their family caregivers. This will be a remote position until further notice, working about 24 hours a week from August through February.
