The American Youth Symphony's mission is to inspire the future of classical music by providing landmark fellowships to virtuosic young adults and exceptional, innovative, and free concerts to the Los Angeles community. Competitively selected, our orchestra is comprised of 100 musicians who represent extraordinary talent from all over the world.
The American Youth Symphony’s concert season runs from September through May and the Fundraising Intern’s job will be devoted to planning, preparation, and marketing. The primary goal of the Fundraising Intern will be to strengthen support for AYS from existing donors and cultivate new donors. The field of development and fundraising is expansive and through this internship, the Fundraising Intern will have the opportunity for hands-on learning in many aspects of fundraising for a performing arts organization, all related to their primary goal, including: 1. Assist in developing and implementing a membership campaign for the 2020/21 year 2. Expand support through the tracking and cultivation of alumni who have played in the AYS orchestra over the past 54 years 3. Help assemble content for grant proposals and reports 4. Gain an understanding of the donor cultivation cycle through aiding in the management of the development department’s major gifts portfolio. By the end of the internship, the Fundraising Intern will be able to clearly solicit institutional and individual constituents and understand various fundraising strategies. This internship will be 15-40 hours per week depending on the interns' availability and will be fully remote for the duration of the year 2020. The internship may become partially remote in 2021 if health guidelines allow.
The Fundraising Intern will assist the Development Associate in the management of the donor database (Salesforce), drafting and proofreading grant materials, and assist in individual and foundation prospect research which is critical to the organization’s success in increasing annual fundraising support. The Fundraising Intern may be called upon to assist with general administrative tasks as needed.
