The American Youth Symphony's mission is to inspire the future of classical music by providing landmark fellowships to virtuosic young adults and exceptional, innovative, and free concerts to the Los Angeles community. Competitively selected, our orchestra is comprised of 100 musicians who represent extraordinary talent from all over the world.
The American Youth Symphony’s concert season runs from September through May. The Marketing Intern’s job requirements will be devoted to planning, preparation, and marketing. Audience development and community engagement initiatives over the last several seasons have resulted in a larger and more diverse audience than ever before. The primary goal of the Marketing Intern will be to create an engaging narrative that tells the unique story of AYS and inspires the excitement and participation of our growing community, using a combination of traditional and digital media. The field of marketing is multifaceted and this intern will have the opportunity for hands-on learning in many aspects of marketing, branding, and PR. Specific projects will include: developing exciting and engaging copy for the 2020/21 season materials (press releases, season brochures, and program books), creating graphic design elements, submitting concert info to event calendars, and helping to create communications and social media calendars and content. The Marketing Intern’s work will serve to align all aspects of the AYS identity to convey a consistent, compelling, and exciting message that further increases awareness, attendance, engagement and ultimately, donations. The Marketing Intern’s work will be read by thousands of potential audience members, many of whom may be learning about AYS for the first time. This will be a unique opportunity to help shape the way that AYS is seen by the broader community, which will have a significant impact on how our organization continues to flourish. This internship will be 15-40 hours per week depending on the interns' availability and will be fully remote for the duration of the year 2020. The internship may become partially remote in 2021 if health guidelines allow.
The Marketing Intern must have very strong written and verbal communication skills and must be prepared to represent AYS to the public in a professional manner. Ideally, they have an interest in symphonic music and the promotion of orchestral music in Los Angeles. They must be Mac proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with any of the following would be beneficial: Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Audition, Premiere and/or InDesign.
