The American Youth Symphony's mission is to inspire the future of classical music by providing landmark fellowships to virtuosic young adults and exceptional, innovative, and free concerts to the Los Angeles community. Competitively selected, our orchestra is comprised of 100 musicians who represent extraordinary talent from all over the world.
The Music Library Intern with the American Youth Symphony will have the opportunity to focus thoroughly on the music for the 2019/20 season by working with our administrative support staff on two major projects: writing program notes for up to 25 musical works to be featured in the AYS program books and organizing the AYS music library (sorting, scanning, cataloguing, etc.). Your original program notes will be based on your research and analysis of orchestral works and will provide insightful background on the music, while simultaneously making this history and analysis accessible to novice listeners. This position is ideal for a music history enthusiast who is seeking valuable experience in orchestra management and will serve as an entry into the world of classical music administration.
The Music Library Intern must be a skilled and confident writer and researcher with a strong music background (music major preferred), a desire to serve the community, and the ability to take direction and work independently. Must be experienced with the Microsoft Office Suite.
