Description

The Advancement Intern will have the exciting opportunity to be fully integrated into the Institutional Advancement Department of Los Angeles’s most prominent nonprofit theatre company. The intern will support the strategy and creation of the 2023-2024 Season events calendar and support the execution of the summer Opening Night event series. This project will include research on best donor stewardship and cultivation practices, learning and executing event logistics, crafting donor communication language, season scheduling, and cross-departmental collaboration. The intern will shadow the events team during the early stages of the program on the execution of Opening Night events at theatre. The intern will then have the opportunity to spearhead the planning and execution of an Opening Night event at the Kirk Douglas Theatre during the late stage of the internship. Projects for the event include invitation development, guest list management, artistic engagement, ticketing and seating the theatre, and executing a post-show donor reception. The Intern will also support a data collection and analyzation project reviewing donor engagement through the 2022-2023 Season that will inform the creation of the 2023-2024 Season events calendar. The goal of the project is to understand how specific event offerings engage donors through attendance and analyze membership segments to increase engagement. To receive a well-rounded advancement and development experience, the intern will also spend time working with each team within the Institutional Advancement Department: foundation and government grants, corporate relations, advancement operations, special events, and major/individual giving. This position will work approximately 40 hours a week from June through August. 

Through this internship, the Advancement Intern will:
1) Understand the mechanics involved in creating and executing special events.
2) Develop a working knowledge of a development database (Tessitura), conducting donor engagement research, and how to maintain an events calendar.
3) Learn about best donor stewardship and cultivation practices.
4) Learn how to craft communications for donors.
5) Overall, gain an understanding of advancement’s role within a nonprofit arts organization and how to utilize hard and soft skills to work with colleagues across the organization and within the community.
 

Qualifications

Applicants should have strong written and verbal communication skills. Applicants must have experience with Microsoft Office and possess excellent organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects. Applicants should have a professional and friendly office demeanor and must be comfortable working with the public. A commitment to anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion is a must. Knowledge of and interest in the arts is a plus. Evening or weekend hours may be required for possible special event coverage.
