The Recreation and Park Services Department continually strives to expose Norwalk's multi-cultural community to new fine arts experiences through a variety of programming, such as our Youth Mariachi Music Program offered at the Cultural Arts Center. The City of Norwalk will continue to develop activities that will foster creativity, cultural experiences, and fun learning opportunities for our community.
The City of Norwalk’s Cultural Arts Center is seeking an intern to assist with community outreach and administrative duties of the Youth Mariachi Program 2019-20 season. The intern will assist in program development for the upcoming season by developing a performance schedule for the season, seeking out new venues where students can perform, making connections with local businesses in Norwalk and local cities where the group can perform, and contacting local schools to find out their special events schedule. The intern will create databases of all the research conducted with appropriate contact information. The intern will also create promotional materials. Inventorying all of the instruments and uniforms, preparing all registration materials for the upcoming season, updating a mailing list of past participants, implementing a group email list of participants, creating a mailing list of current participants, drafting a letter for returning students, and conducting mail outs.
The skills needed to be successful in this internship are as follows: excellent networking skills and the ability to work with local businesses, organizations, and community members. Strong oral communication and organizational skills, the ability to work independently with self-motivation, the ability to multitask and shift from one assignment to another quickly. The likely candidate will also need to know or possess the skills needed to learn Adobe Illustrator computer software. The likely candidate will also need to be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word and Outlook with the ability to learn or strengthen their Excel skills. The intern will also need to have the skills needed to conduct online research.
