Diavolo examines the relationship between the human body and its architectural environment. This Architecture in Motion is explored through dance performances, trainings, and community programs for all. Diavolo is a cultural pillar of the community as the leading LA dance company to consistently perform locally, nationally, and internationally. Through the Diavolo Institute, the company provides education and engagement opportunities, sharing the power of dance as a force for positive change.
The Artistic Intern will learn the major components of running a dance company by working directly with the company’s Founder and Artistic Director Jacques Heim. The Intern’s duties will consist of (1) managing the Artistic Director’s calendar, (2) serving as the liaison between administrative and artistic staff, (3) provide support in areas of creative research and planning, (4) coordinate DIAVOLO’s summer rehearsal schedule, and (5) designing and writing performance programs for DIAVOLO’s 2019/2020 tour season.
The Intern will have the opportunity to interact with DIAVOLO’s professional and senior staff, thereby gaining exposure to their diverse responsibilities and learning about the multitude of career options available to them in the performing arts.
Desired applicant should have strong organization and communication skills. S/he should be a “self-starter” who is motivated, conscientious, dependable, and an adaptable team player with a genuine interest in the arts. Passion for dance is a plus. Excellent writing and editing skills are highly desirable.
Pre-requisites include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), social media (e.g.- YouTube, Facebook, etc.) and Photoshop. Candidates should desire a position during normal business hours, usually 9 AM to 5 PM, with occasional schedule adjustment for attendance at company events on evenings and weekends, that will afford them access and exposure to all areas of arts administration.
