Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles is deeply rooted in service to the Los Angeles community but has become one of the leading LGBTQ arts organizations in the world. Since 1979, GMCLA has consistently grown, developing educational programs that change the lives of students throughout LA County while offering dozens of performances each year, recording full-length studio recordings, commissioning new works and arrangements (more than 300 in total), and appearing frequently on national television.

Description

The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles seeks an intern who is passionate about the performing arts and LGBTQ rights to join the Development team and learn how to raise money for artistic programming and social advocacy programs. The GMCLA intern will learn about all aspects of the organization. They’ll attend a major concert and help out at a VIP reception, they'll see GMCLA’s music education programs for incarcerated youth in action, and they’ll experience GMCLA’s advocacy work for the LGBTQ community during Pride month in June. The intern will identify a favorite programming area and then, with guidance, identify sources of funding. By the end of the summer, under development officer supervision, the intern will have played a key role in planning and completing a grant proposal to support the programmatic work of the Chorus. They will also have made professional contacts throughout the city and learned about many of the available career tracks in performing arts administration.

Qualifications

The following are requirements for the position:
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
• Demonstrated interest in social advocacy, preferably for the LGBTQ community;
• Demonstrated interest in the arts and/or youth education;
• Reliable transportation to attend events, meetings, and performances in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
