Independent Shakespeare Co. is a professional theater company known for our "freewheeling irreverence and classical precision" (LA Times). We serve the community of Los Angeles with great theater at the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival (an entire summer of free theater and events presented free to audiences), indoors at our Studio and in the community with education and partnership programs.
The Production Operations Intern will be a key member of the team behind the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival, an entire summer of classical theater presented free to thousands of Angelenos. The intern’s duties during rehearsal process and pre-production include supporting the Director, producers and artists in the rehearsal room, site transformation, set construction. Plus other assigned tasks that support the Stage Manager, Director, Producers, and Designers. For the run of the production, the intern will be an integral part of the backstage team each night of performances.
The intern should have a great interest in theater-making. The intern must possess strong interpersonal skills, time-management skills, and a desire to learn about all aspects of theater production. They must be a team player, a problem-solver, and a self-starter. The intern should have a basic understanding of the production process; prior technical theater experience and/or stage management experience is preferable. The intern should be collaborative, flexible, positive, enthusiastic, and not be afraid to get their hands dirty. Light carpentry, sewing, and/or electrical skills are assets. Evening and weekend hours are required. Reliable transportation is required.
