NAVEL seeks a Communications & Storytelling Intern to create content to help us tell stories about our residents, members, and extended community, and the emerging work which they create to imagine a more just, creative, and collaborative world. The intern will work closely with the Executive Director, NAVEL staff, and other community members to document all of the ways that we foster creative community and platform the work of historically marginalized folks. This opportunity will engage a full range of communications, marketing, and storytelling skills, but the emphasis is on developing content—both multimedia and written—for NAVEL’s platforms including website, email, and social media.  This position will work 400 hours of employment from September 2021 through March 2022 (an average of 20 hours/week). The intern will ideally work from the NAVEL space 2x per week, but may work from home up to 50% of the time if so desired.

Specific Qualifications and Skills preferred: - Ability to tell stories across platforms and mediums - Ability to write for multiple lengths, contexts and audiences - Capable editorial hand - Experience with social media and email marketing - Graphic Design Skills preferred (Adobe Creative Suite) - Curiosity and interest in NAVEL’s mission, community and programs - Bilingual (English/Español) preferred


NAVEL creates opportunities for artists, thinkers and makers to ignite our collective imaginaries, expanding our capacity to cooperate and co-create in holistic, sustainable, and emergent ways. From our collaboratively-run warehouse space in downtown Los Angeles, we support a community of artists and agitators to get the resources they need to do the work they want. Through membership, programs and events, we bring people together to engage and experiment with caring and collaborative ways of thinking, being, organizing, and making. Since 2017, we have provided 150 free or low-cost cultural programs and events to more than 15,000 community members, featuring close to 300 artists, thinkers, and makers.
