About

LosAKAtombros, originating out of the Japanese American subculture of Los Angeles’ Crenshaw District, plays both original compositions as well as jazz standards. Their music ranges from “straight renditions” to “improvisational explorations” of traditional Japanese songs, with an aesthetic influenced by Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane along with Japanese folk music. While the members of the band are grounded in the heritage of the Japanese American community, the goal of LosAKAtombros is always to raise the human spirit by way of group collaboration, moving from specifics of individual experience to a more universal understanding.
