At 826LA, design is an integral part of our brand and our history. The 826LA and Time Travel Mart brands are different, but they should speak to each other and influence each other. The Design and Marketing Intern will primarily focus on two aspects of design at 826LA’s Time Travel Marts. The first is working to create store-related signage and product development. The second is store communications through newsletters and social media.
In addition, the Store Design and Marketing Intern will be given the opportunity to propose and develop a small standalone project from ideation through final production. This project will need to be completed within the duration of the internship.
The Design and Marketing Intern will work on a few projects like the ones listed above with the support of the Store team.
This position requires a commitment of 400 hours, working 20-40 hours per week, (or 3 - 5 months) from the September start date.
This position requires proficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud software with working knowledge in InDesign and Illustrator. Through hands-on practice, the Design and Marketing Intern will develop invaluable professional experience and see how store design works for a non-profit.
This position is made possible through a grant from the Los Angeles Department of Arts and Culture, which requires that candidates be eligible to apply. (See Eligibility below) Working hours will be set with the selected Design and Marketing Intern in a conversation prior to the start date. In keeping with the rising minimum wage in Los Angeles County, the Design and Marketing Intern position will be paid $17.87 per hour for 400 hours.
A laptop and access to Adobe Creative Cloud can be made available to the Store Design and Marketing Intern for the duration of the internship.

Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud software including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Working knowledge in Canva and Google Suite. Access to stable Wi-Fi connectivity plus audio and visual capabilities for virtual meetings. Attention to detail, time management, flexibility to adjust in the moment, and willingness to learn and grow through practice. Aspiring and able to work independently while experimenting with your design aesthetic. Desire to work in an organization with a strong spirit of social justice. Willingness to be an ambassador for 826LA’s mission. Interest in writing, education, nonprofits, youth development, and/or art education. Strong communication skills.
826LA is a non-profit writing and tutoring organization dedicated to supporting students with their creative and expository writing, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. 826LA is part of a national network of 826 chapters, founded by educator Nínive Calegari and author Dave Eggers. The Time Travel Mart is a storefront that sells supplies for time travelers from all eras, along with student publications; proceeds from sales support 826LA's free programs.
