We are looking for an intern to collaborate with the ArtsLB staff on our communications video initiatives, aimed at establishing ArtsLB as the central hub for promoting arts and culture in Long Beach. Ideal candidates should be comfortable with video editing, conducting interviews, and staying up-to-date with current social media video practices.
We aim to build the communications capacity for the entire arts and cultural community of Long Beach. This work will assist individual artists as well as organizations in creating new audiences for their work, increasing arts participation by low-income populations, and contributing to the economic development of the entire community through the arts.
The Communications Intern will work approximately 30-40 hours a week from June through December.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in arts management, marketing, and/or fundraising. They will possess strong communication skills (reading, writing, and proofreading), excellent organizational abilities, experience with project management, and exceptional attention to detail. The intern will need to have the ability to conduct research, work effectively both independently and collaboratively, and be willing to take the lead on specific projects.
A working knowledge of Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 is required. We prefer a knowledge of Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). Finally, the intern should have familiarity with at least one visual or performing arts genre, either as an artist or enthusiastic audience member.
Public Corporation for the Arts of the City of Long Beach (Arts Council for Long Beach, or ArtsLB) was founded in 1976 as the official arts agency for the City of Long Beach, becoming an independent 501(c)(3) organization in 1982. ArtsLB serves the cities of Long Beach, Signal Hill, Lakewood, Avalon, and unincorporated Rancho Dominguez.
Art in Long Beach is a reflection of the diversity of our city. ArtsLB strives to create a vibrant environment for our resident artists to flourish and for our communities to express their diverse voices and cultural character to a wider audience through public art and events.
Interested applicants must apply by the specified deadline and submit the following materials: a cover letter outlining your qualifications and interest in the role, a current resume (must include education, work experience, and extracurricular activities), unofficial college transcripts, and two references (including name and contact information).
