Los Angeles, CA 90005
In 2023, The Ebell launched The Ebell Institute for the Study of Women’s History in Los Angeles (TEI) to share stories about women who have helped shape the city’s arts, culture, and civic life—both in the past and today.
For the BAI internship, The Ebell is introducing a teen-designed, teen-led half-day event debuting in summer 2026. The event will showcase projects by LA County high school students, which may include short presentations, interviews, visual art, spoken word, or performances exploring the impact of women in Los Angeles.
With guidance from Ebell staff, interns will help review pre-screened student submissions, select projects to feature, and work together to plan how the event will run. They will also help think about the event setup, assist with outreach to other teens, and support the event on the day it takes place.
Interns will also get a behind-the-scenes look at how a nonprofit arts organization works by learning how different teams collaborate to bring programs to life.
By the end of the internship, students will have helped produce a public event while building skills in teamwork, communication, event planning, and workplace basics—and will have contributed to sharing important stories about women in Los Angeles. No experience is necessary, but an interest in women's history, event planning, and youth empowerment is a plus!
In addition to planning a teen-focused TEI event, interns will get hands on experience working as part of our Programs team, helping with different projects under the staff's guidance and supervision. Students may help set up events, join meetings, share ideas for social media, and assist with simple research and organizational projects. Additionally, interns will receive support in college and career readiness, learning how to share their Ebell skills in applications or interviews!
This internship requires no prior experience—just curiosity and a demonstrated interest in arts and culture, research, women’s rights or community advocacy, or event planning. Interest can be shown through school activities, extracurriculars, or any previous work or volunteer experience.
Founded in 1894 during the Women’s Suffrage Movement, The Ebell of Los Angeles’ mission is to inspire women and build community through arts, culture, education, service and stewardship of our historic campus and collections, including the 1,200-seat Wilshire Ebell Theatre. Each year, more than 100,000 people visit The Ebell to experience live performances, learn about Los Angeles history, and take part in programs that celebrate creativity and community.
Students should submit a brief statement of interest explaining why they want to participate and how the internship supports their college or career goals. Please submit to Amelia Comer (amelia@ebellofla.org) with the subject “Programming Intern – FULL NAME Application.” A résumé is not required to apply; interns will receive support in creating or updating one during the program.
