artworxLA - Production Intern

3787 S. Vermont Avenue Suite 101
Los Angeles, CA 90007
Status
Open
Description

Reporting to artworxLA’s Communications Associate, the Production Intern’s primary project will be to produce a short video that conveys and advocates for the role of the arts in education and everyday life.

The video may be documentary style, capturing artworxLA's summer activities from the intern's perspective, or scripted to reflect the intern's creative voice. This project offers an opportunity to develop filmmaking skills while gaining insight into the impact and behind-the-scenes development of arts education programming.

The intern will meet with a group of professional mentors-- including a producer, filmmaker, editor, and social media manager-- who will guide them through the process of development a treatment that communicates what artworxLA does, what makes the organization unique, and why it exists.

Through this process, the intern will:

  • collaborate with a team about brand positioning statements
  • produce visual materials, including mood boards and storyboards, to support video planning
  • work with the Marketing intern to create a script using approaches such as problem/solution or idealized reality.
  • develop a production list of equipment, props, and supplementary content (music, stock footage, etc.)
  • execute the video, including shooting and editing, with support from the professional mentors and assistance from a peer team.

This project will provide the intern with hands-in digital media production experience while contributing to advocacy for the essential role of the arts in education and everyday life.

Additional Duties

The intern will participate in regular check-ins with supervisors that connect day-to-day tasks to big-picture concepts, address questions, clarify any confusion, and support their individual growth. Ongoing creative review sessions will help build comfort in receiving feedback from staff and mentors. Communications team check-ins will also help the intern understand how planning, messaging, and production workflows operate within a nonprofit arts organization.

Interns will participate in field trips to Special Group's headquarters (with transportation provided by Special/artworxLA via HopSkipDrive), where they will meet creative professionals from Special's team and clients, including Uber, Hands, Fox Sports, Apple, Nike, and local production studios. These experiences will provide a well-rounded understanding of the creative and logistical components of marketing beyond a nonprofit arts perspective
