Background

Jail Guitar Doors is non-profit, social justice arts organization based in Los Angeles, CA. JGD provides rehabilitative songwriting workshops and mentorship to help justice-involved individuals develop essential life skills that will support them while incarcerated and when they return to their community, as well as advancing new solutions to diminish prison violence and supporting organizations that engage in policy reform efforts. In 2019, our mission expanded to provide on-going music education to at-risk youths who were graduates of our “Songs & Beats” Program from the Los Angeles Department of Probation juvenile hall. In January of 2021, we deepened our commitment to these underserved youth by breaking ground on the C.A.P.O. (Community Arts Programming & Outreach) Center, a music education center for youth which will provide on-going education and a pathway to employment through paid internships in the entertainment industry.
