Description

We are seeking a Program Intern for our popular monthly artist talk/ site visit series "River Sessions." This position will appeal to anyone wishing to gain experience in community engagement via hands-on art making and community gathering/ story sharing grounded by Indigenous principles of reciprocity and Hyonaayn’ar--a Tongva word that means both teacher and student.  Working directly with our Program Coordinator, Executive Director, and Indigenous Advisor, the intern will assist in all aspects of preparation and implementation of the River Sessions including monthly in-person site visits with a group of 30-40 participants to different places along the LA River with featured artists as guides. This position will work approximately 15-20 hours a week from June through December.

Qualifications

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines. Must be proficient in using GoogleWord, some spreadsheet and presentation experience. Familiarity with GoogleMeet and other video conferencing . The Intern must be physically capable to perform all activities. Interacts effectively with individuals at all social and economic levels. Enthusiasm for the mission of LA River Arts and the communities we serve.
 

Background

Founded in 2014, LA River Public Art Project combines advocacy, public policy, and the arts to re-present the river we share. We believe that dynamic public art is the ideal platform for focusing public attention on the Los Angeles River. Our efforts confirm the value of inclusionary art-based public projects, raise the visibility of artists and engage communities, and envision a robust river cultural environment.
