The Administration Intern will directly support the creation and development of Mission Opera’s brand-new stage production by coordinating the administrative, logistical, and organizational work that brings the project to life. Working closely with the artistic and management team, the intern will help maintain production schedules, organize project materials, support rehearsal operations at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, and ensure that all behind-the-scenes elements progress smoothly during the eight-week development period. A central responsibility of this position will be assisting with communication between Mission Opera and the production’s IP/license holder to ensure all materials, promotional language, and public-facing content comply with approved usage. The intern will help track permissions, organize reference documents, monitor draft materials for adherence to guidelines, and document all approvals to support the production’s artistic integrity. Additional duties will include preparing and distributing rehearsal schedules, organizing digital assets for marketing and production use, assisting with internal meeting preparation, maintaining calendars and timelines, and supporting logistical needs connected to the promotion of the new performance space at Valencia Town Center. The intern will also aid in coordinating transitions between rehearsal and promotional sites, helping ensure smooth operations throughout the production process. Mission Opera will provide the intern with a structured eight-week timeline outlining weekly tasks, measurable checkpoints, and opportunities for feedback.
In addition to their primary project duties, the interns will participate in a variety of day-to-day activities that support Mission Opera’s ongoing programming and general operations. Both interns will assist in preparing and disseminating announcements for the organization’s upcoming season, including gathering production details, drafting preliminary language for public communications, and helping organize materials for coordinated release across digital platforms. Interns will also support the development of advertising materials by assisting with the preparation of copy, gathering visual assets, organizing layout elements, and coordinating internal reviews. Under staff supervision, they will observe and participate in the process of transforming raw artistic information into accessible public-facing promotional content. As part of routine office operations, interns will help answer phone calls, provide basic information to patrons, and support customer service needs. They will receive training on ticketing procedures and assist with ticket sales, including documenting transactions, responding to inquiries, and directing patrons to appropriate resources when necessary. Additional administrative tasks may include organizing digital files, supporting rehearsal communication, assisting with mailing lists, and contributing to internal meeting preparation. These day-to-day responsibilities ensure that interns gain broad exposure to arts administration, customer relations, and public-facing communication within a professional performing arts environment.
The ideal intern candidate will:
- possess an interest in performing arts, theater, music, and/or opera;
- possess excellent verbal, written and organizational skills;
- act responsibly and with a friendly and professional demeanor;
- be inquisitive and willing to learn new skills;
- connect with a diverse array of community members;
- demonstrate familiarity with Microsoft Windows Office Suite, Wix, and Google Drive;
- demonstrate a comfort level with all major social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube;
- be a self-started who can work with independently;
- learn quickly and multitask; and
