Description

The Marketing & Communications Intern will be contributing to the development and implementation of strategic communications to increase the visibility of the FASO brand and its programs as part of its public education campaign promoting cultural equity. The intern's primary responsibility will be to assist in the PR, marketing and communications focusing on:

  1. Event promotion and providing marketing support to increase revenues through sponsorships, merchandise sales, memberships, and online income streams;
  2. Content creation;
  3. Relationship-building with media partners/sponsors;
  4. Increasing engagement with social media campaigns, newsletters, and in-person outreach.
Additional Duties

Successful interns will learn what it takes to become valuable team players and collaborative leaders with an emphasis on work relevant to what skills they want to develop. FASO internships provide participants with experience working with diverse groups of people, musicians, arts producers, and community leaders. The intern will be required to attend weekly meetings to engage with the Development, Business, Marketing, Production teams, as well as the Board Program Committee. Interns are encouraged to contribute ideas, feedback, and their unique cultural context to these meetings, bringing diversity to the organization's dialogue and developing strong working relationships with the staff. Interns are also assigned to the team(s) to develop themselves in the expertise of their choice. The interns' work week starts with the weekly staff meeting to determine the work plan, assign roles, work deadlines, assess the progress of goals and workload, and determine additional support where needed. They clock in and clock out using an online tool, Homebase, and check in with their supervisor. The interns complete their assigned tasks, referring to the work plan, and presents their work to their supervisor or team(s) at meetings for final completion.

Qualifications

The intern should be a self-motivated, highly focused, and team-oriented with a general knowledge of social media platforms preferred. Some knowledge in content creation with basic graphic design is preferred. An interest in the arts and community-building is preferred but not required. The intern is expected to take an active role in understanding and supporting all aspects of the organization in order to better inform and supplement their experience.

The Filipino American Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra that serves to provide access and reduce barriers to cultural participation for communities of color through music production and education.
