The Media & Production Intern supports the technical and creative production of Heidi Duckler Dance’s performances and programs. They assist with event setup, lighting and sound preparation, stage management tasks, and behind-the-scenes coordination, gaining hands-on experience in how a live dance performance comes together from planning through rehearsal to final show and post performance logistics. The intern’s primary project will focus on supporting the production of ¡ORDENA!, a dynamic food truck event featuring site-specific dances in August 2026. Blending performance, community gathering, and cultural expression, ¡ORDENA! celebrates the voices, flavors, and traditions of the local Latino community. Working closely with the artistic and production teams, the intern will help prepare performance materials, assist with load-in and load-out, test and organize equipment, and provide on-site production support during rehearsals and performances.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- assist in setup and breakdown of performance spaces, including sound, lighting, props, and audience seating;
- support the Production Manager with inventory and logistics;
- help maintain and organize production equipment and materials;
- learn basic technical skills in audio and stage management;
- observe and assist during technical rehearsals and performances to understand timing, cues, and backstage operations;
- capture short behind-the-scenes clips and photos for internal use and documentation (as available;
- participate in team meetings to understand how artistic, technical, and administrative departments collaborate on live events; and
- end of day report detailing what tasks have been completed and what tasks are in progress.
In addition to the primary production and marketing projects, the interns will assist with day-to-day administrative and operational activities that contribute to the overall success of Heidi Duckler Dance’s artistic and community programs. These responsibilities will include clerical duties and general office support such as filing and organizing. The interns will help update HDD’s databases, track survey reports, and assist in the creation of evaluation tools that measure audience engagement, educational impact, and community participation.
The interns will also play a hands-on role in supporting live performances, rehearsals, and community-based events. This may include front-of-house assistance such as greeting guests, managing check-in lists, setting up event spaces, and coordinating with production and communications staff to ensure smooth event operations. Through these experiences, the interns will gain valuable insight into the logistical and interpersonal aspects of presenting site-specific dance and community programming.
Other activities may include assisting with social media scheduling, supporting filing, mailings or press outreach, and helping to prepare materials for donor and community presentations. These day-to-day tasks will provide the intern with a comprehensive view of how an arts nonprofit functions, reinforcing the connection between behind-the-scenes administrative work and the realization of artistic projects in the community.
Media & Production Intern Preferred Qualifications: An interest in live performance, production, or event planning; curiosity about technical theater, lighting, sound, or stage management; ability to work as part of a team; and a willingness to be hands-on and problem-solve in dynamic, creative environments. Bi-lingual preferred. Marketing & Social Media Intern Preferred Qualifications: An interest in the arts, storytelling, or social media; familiarity with platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Canva or other basic design tools; strong writing or visual communication skills; enthusiasm for teamwork and creative collaboration. Bi-lingual preferred.
