Tia Chucha’s Programs Intern will gain first-hand experience in creating and organizing cultural arts programming for the community of the Northeast San Fernando Valley. The intern will contribute to achieving the goals of Tia Chucha’s strategic plan, particularly those focused on increasing programs and visibility of organization. Supervised by the Program Coordinator, the intern will provide project and administrative support to the programming staff. The intern’s primary responsibilities will relate to helping organize cultural arts workshop sessions along with assisting in direct community engagement, program outreach and social media. The intern will also be given the opportunity to develop a comprehensive data collection system, lead culmination planning, create a one-time event, and/or project of their choice. This project provides the intern opportunities to broaden skills important to nonprofit arts programming such as relationship-building, outreach, program development, and evaluation.
The intern will work on-site with the bookstore team to complete administrative and related tasks. The intern will be working on-site with the programs team to complete administrative tasks, and focus on identifying and organizing details for cultural arts workshops whether in person or virtually. In organizing details they will be communicating with participants through email, phone, and/or in person.
The preferred applicant will have strong writing, communication, organizational and project management skills. Be able to work with a team as well as independently and focus amidst a great deal of activity. Be proactive, enthusiastic, resourceful, detail-oriented and mission-driven. Have proficient computer and internet skills, particularly with Microsoft Word and Excel, Google tools, and various forms of Social Media including but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
The mission of Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural & Bookstore is to transform the community in the Northeast San Fernando Valley and beyond through ancestral knowledge, the arts, literacy and creative engagement. The cultural center and bookstore provides a positive space for year-round, on-site and off-site, free or low-cost, bilingual cultural arts and literacy program experiences.
