Tia Chucha’s Bookstore Intern will gain first-hand experience in working in a retail bookstore setting under the umbrella of a nonprofit organization. The intern will contribute to achieving the goals of Tia Chucha’s strategic plan, particularly those focused on increasing the bookstore’s sustainability efforts to support organizational infrastructure and the center’s literacy and arts-based programming. Supervised by the Bookstore and Operations Director, the intern will provide administrative support to bookstore staff. The intern’s primary responsibilities will relate to customer service and overall administrative support. This project provides the intern opportunities to broaden skills important to nonprofit and business development such as relationship-building and data management. Other responsibilities could include social media support and public relations marketing including e-newsletter posts.
The intern will work on-site with the bookstore team to complete administrative related tasks.
The preferred applicant will have writing, communication, and organizational skills. Be able to work with a team as well as independently and focus amidst a great deal of activity. Be proactive, enthusiastic, resourceful, detail-oriented and mission-driven.
The mission of Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural & Bookstore is to transform the community in the Northeast San Fernando Valley and beyond through ancestral knowledge, the arts, literacy and creative engagement. The cultural center and bookstore provides a positive space for year-round, on-site and off-site, free or low-cost, bilingual cultural arts and literacy program experiences.
