The intern will be a key member of CoCo’s Arts and Culture team, charged with informing and curating key aspects of event programming, developing creative marketing strategies, facilitating an arts curriculum for local youth, and providing overall logistical support. The intern will support the production of arts festivals, CoCo’s annual gala dinner, and the MLK Freedom Festival. The intern will also support curriculum development and programming for the Youth Arts and Culture Council, comprised of South LA high school students interested in art and activism. The intern will gain a unique understanding of the arts economy across LA County—and South LA specifically—as CoCo engages with many local creatives. The intern will acquire a broad set of professional skills that will ensure an understanding of how to utilize arts and culture for social good. This position will require approximately 15–20 hours of work weekly from August 2026 to February 2027.

Founded in 1990, Community Coalition (CoCo) was created as a community-driven response to the crack-cocaine epidemic that devastated South LA. Founded with the belief that South LA’s primarily Black and Latine youth and families are their community's greatest asset and protective factor, CoCo’s mission is to help transform the social and economic conditions in South LA that foster addiction, crime, violence and poverty by building a community institution that involves thousands in creating, influencing and changing public policy. As part of this mission, arts and culture strategies are leveraged to civically involve residents, communicate information around critical initiatives, and provide a platform for residents to build community and experience joy and healing via the arts. CoCo has a long track record of hosting large-scale multidisciplinary events featuring known performers (NoName, Dckwrth) while also providing opportunities for local artists.
