Outside In Theatre is currently looking for interns to work directly with the creative producing team, which includes the Producing Artistic Director, Assoc Artistic Director and General Manager/Education Manager. The main project for this creative administrative position will be working on the production of plays, both scripted and unscripted. They will work as an Assistant Producer supporting the Producing Artistic Director in all aspects of putting the shows on, from the start of rehearsals, through build and tech week into performances. The intern position will participate in many different departments but their focus will be decided with their supervisor based on what their interest is. They will learn and observe all aspects of how a play is produced, and the administrative activities that are needed including pre-production planning, budgeting, contracting, payroll set up, overseeing marketing and publicity, ticket sales monitoring and development, opening and closing, celebration set up and execution, strike of technical aspects, closing out of production, and post mortem discussions with the production team, staff,and Board.
Additional duties may include:
- shadowing the Producing Artistic Director, Managing Director, Assoc Artistic Director, General Manager, and head of the Marketing team;
- assisting directors and producers during workshop processes of new plays;
- assisting with the setting up and implementing systems for box office;
- creating graphics and text for marketing including social media;
- may need to be able to lift and carry heavier objects;
- participate in scheduling and programming conversations with the creative team and implementing tasks from those meetings;
- assist in grant writing with the creative team;
- sit in and support Board Meetings administrative needs;
- may attend classes offered by OI including Improv, Viewpoints, and other theatre techniques at no cost during the time of the internship;
- participate in hospitality for guest artists; and
- assist in audience and community outreach and support.
The ideal candidate should have an interest in learning all aspects of running a nonprofit theatre. No prior experience is necessary, but an interest in how theatre is created from the inception of a creative idea through budget making and implementation of creative work as we develop projects for presentation to the public. Understanding of social media or front of house ticketing programs or data capture and CRMs a plus.
