The Music Center strives to deepen the cultural life of every resident of Los Angeles County and continue creating an increasingly relevant, multidisciplinary performing arts center. As one of the nation’s largest performing arts centers and a cultural anchor in L.A. County, The Music Center convenes artists, communities and ideas by producing free and low-cost public concerts and events, presenting world-class dance companies and creating arts education programs for schools and neighborhoods.
The 2024 Arts Education Intern will provide support to the Manager of Professional Development to develop, produce, and document The Music Center's Arts Integration Symposium. The Arts Integration Symposium engages TK-12 educators through experiential sessions led by expert teaching artists in dance, music, theatre, visual and media arts. In this 3-day experience, educators work side-by-side with Music Center teaching artists as reflective learners and collaborative partners, forging meaningful connections between the arts and content areas such as English Language Arts, history, science and social-emotional learning.
The Education intern will assist with the recruitment of participants and schedule of events. Prior to the start of the Symposium, they will register participants, prepare materials workshop materials, and coordinate with teaching artists. During the event they will document activities via photo and/or video, assist with technical issues, and support educators, artists, and staff. Following the event, the Arts Education Intern will help to compile a report on the program.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position. This 25-hours per week position will begin in June 2024 and conclude in September 2024.
The Music Center has shifted to a hybrid work model with each department determining a schedule for in office and remote work. The intern must have virtual availability e.g., email, phone, video during the regular 9am to 5pm office hours to work with the Education team, (unless otherwise required and supervisor approved). To promote a productive remote work arrangement, the intern will have regular daily work sessions with their supervisor and the Arts Education team and weekly virtual check-in times and hours of availability with supervisor(s).
"•Familiarity with Windows and knowledge of MS Word and Excel are essential.
•Experience and skills in editing, formatting and publishing materials is preferred.
•Problem-solving and organizational skills are required, as well as the ability to take initiative in carrying out responsibilities with professionalism.
•The Music Center requests an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual who is eager to aid classroom teachers in their professional development in the arts via our Symposium setting.
•An interest in arts education and/or performing arts administration is a plus.
