Background

Southern California Public Radio is a member-supported public media organization whose mission is to strengthen the civic and cultural bonds that unite Southern California's diverse communities by providing high-quality news, information, and programming on air at LAist 89.3, online at LAist.com, on social media @LAistofficial, and through LAist Live Programming & Events. Since our founding in 1999, SCPR has been a fast-growing, innovative public service newsroom. We are a public forum that engages its audiences in an ongoing dialogue and exploration of issues, events, cultures, and the arts. Every day, our staff helps audiences catch up on the latest headlines, solve the complexities of life in Southern California, and connect curious communities to one another. We strive to create an inclusive environment where employees feel pride in who they are and what they do. We are encouraged to show up as we are – always embracing and recognizing that our diversity is what brings us together.

How to Apply

Submit an application, résumé, and cover letter though this Arts & Culture website or through the SCPR/LAist jobs board. Once the broader pool has been narrowed to qualified candidates, our intern coordinator will review all submitted materials. Applicants will be evaluated based on their knowledge of the organization, expressed passion or goals for the internship program, and relevant experience. Select candidates will be assigned homework questions that are anonymized and then reviewed and scored by a committee of volunteers, with top scorers invited for interviews. In addition, students can check whether their college has an intern partnership with SCPR; if so, they may be able to apply to this position through the school, which typically will conduct a round of review in advance before passing applications to SCPR.
