The Arts Equity Intern will gain practical experience in community engagement, the development and installation of public art, artist in residencies and gallery exhibitions. This position will work approximately 20-30 hours/week from the beginning of July through the end of September.
The Arts Equity Intern will perform their duties in a flexible, hybrid remote/in-person capacity. There will be a minimum of once-a-week in-person meetings with Transformation Arts President, Lenore French & may include visits to artist studios, relevant art gallery and museum exhibitions. In addition, the intern will assist during gallery hours at DMST Atelier. The Arts Equity Intern must have knowledge of programs like Canva, Google forms, etc. as well as social media platforms. They may be called upon to generate meeting notices, flyers, assist with presentations and social media outreach as part of their community-engagement and other duties. The Arts Equity Intern must have a valid CA driver's license or ID and the mobility to meet in person as well as at public engagement meetings where art projects are being installed. This specifically includes those who are wheelchair-users (or other assistive devices) with access to public transportation.
TRANSFORMATION ARTS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cultural equity arts organization that has managed public art projects, multi-disciplinary art exhibitions and festivals like the Mar Vista Art Walk since 2013. When community members are engaged as change agents in their own community, transformation occurs. With community-based public art and opportunities for artists to receive more training and resources, Transformation Arts is committed to supporting that change.
