About The Artwork

We Remember, 2020, Video

We Remember captures the memories and moments that Indigenous youth from Los Angeles learn and preserve about their culture as it is passed down from their family and elders.

Home, 2022, Photograph

Home is a portrait I took of my mother. In the 1980s, she crossed the border through the mountains and started a new life with my father, who lived in Los Angeles. Throughout the years, my mother adapted to different identities in order to survive in her new home. Recently, I captured a photo of her outside her home in Los Angeles, in her traditional style and dress from Bolivia. Many marginalized cultures have been historically erased. Clothing is one way my mother keeps her Bolivian culture alive.
