About The Artwork

Resident Alien, 2006, Photograph

This photograph was taken in Downtown Los Angeles during the second of a series of historic marches for U.S. immigration reform in 2006. The march was part of the largest nationwide day of protest for U.S. immigration reform, as marches and rallies occurred in 102 cities across the country. Pictured is a protester proudly wearing an enlarged replica of a U.S. green card (known officially as a permanent resident card), as she leads a portion of the march. Creativity was a signature trait of the marches that occurred that year.
