About The Artwork

Retrato de mi primo, 2022, Photograph

This is a portrait of my cousin whom I photographed at his home in Pasadena, CA. I am in the early stages of working on a project based around my childhood and upbringing in my old neighborhood in Pasadena. This neighborhood in recent years has begun to change and has seen some gentrification; the rent has sky-rocketed and families have been forced out of neighborhoods they've lived in for years. I am photographing the people that remain in this neighborhood and the remnants of my childhood memories.

Untitled, 2012, Photograph

I took this image in 2012 on Broadway Street in Downtown Los Angeles. This is part of a larger body of work, all of which was photographed on the streets of Downtown Los Angeles from 2011-2013. At the time, Downtown was going through a noticeable change, most mom-and-pop shops and restaurants along Broadway which had been there for many years were closing and making way for corporate stores and lofts. I noticed this change and decided to document the streets of downtown and focus my camera on the people that inhabited those streets.

I took this image in 2012, inside of a Red Line Subway Station. At the time, I was working on a series of images focused on the changing landscape of Downtown Los Angeles and its inhabitants.
