Get Lit - Words Ignite seeks an Education Program Intern for a 3-month internship to work with our Manager of Education in the operations of our youth empowerment and literacy organization. They will assist in composing and editing our annual curriculum materials for 2025-26 In-School Program including through our online platform Uni(verse), and will help plan and execute programs for teen poets. This position will work approximately 40 hours a week from June through August 2025.
 

Qualifications

We expect applicants to have a knowledge and appreciation of classic and contemporary poetry, to have basic computer skills, have experience with G-Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and be familiar with Macintosh operating systems. Candidates should also be comfortable working in a professional setting and have an interest in teaching as well as literary and/or performing arts. Other skills that would be useful in this position include proofreading skills, event management, and an ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of people including teenagers, parents of students, professional staff members, and organization Board Members.

Get Lit – Words Ignite inspires literacy, wellness, creativity, and workforce development for young people through Spoken Word poetry and media.   Through in- and after-school programs centered on classic and contemporary poetry and multi-media expression, Get Lit advances education, promotes literacy, and offers opportunities for under-resourced young people to create community and raise up their authentic voices. Our programs span the classroom to career including: In-School Program with award-winning curricula; the Classic Slam spoken word competition; the Get Lit Players performance troupe; our Film Lab semester-long program for high-schoolers; and our Creative Career Lab that offers young adults job training and employment placement in creative fields.
