Description

Reporting to artworxLA’s Interim Executive Director, the Development and Communications Intern will gain a comprehensive understanding of the intersections between the fundraising goals and communications strategy for an arts education nonprofit with a focus on positive youth development. The intern will expand their visual and verbal communication skills by helping to create key marketing assets and donor stewardship materials in line with the artworxLA 2025–26 calendar. In doing so, the intern will support our efforts to strengthen artworxLA's fundraising campaigns, as well as connect with artworxLA's various stakeholders: students and alumni, community members; corporate, foundation, and government partners; individual donors; educators; and other supporters. The intern will work approximately 20–25 hours a week from August–December 2025. The internship will be a hybrid format and may include in-person travel to document school and cultural partner sites.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess an interest in arts education and addressing the needs of youth in alternative high schools and juvenile camps and halls; interest in graphic design, photography, video, and marketing; familiarity with Adobe Suite and MS Office Suite; strong organizational, research, communication, and critical-thinking skills. Successful candidates will have a basic understanding of social media and project management; collaborate well with a team; take initiative; ask questions; and be willing to learn new skills including online softwares like Squarespace and Mailchimp.
 

Background

artworxLA re-engages students through the arts and provides a creative pathway to a future beyond high school graduation. We combat the high school dropout rate in LA County by providing long-term sequential arts programming at over 25 alternative high schools. Cultivating and maintaining effective partnerships with artists, educators, cultural centers, community organizations, and major cultural institutions in Los Angeles allows us to amplify our collective impact and the voices of the 800+ students we serve each year.
